When the work is the product, the website's job is to get out of its way and then give someone a reason to book.

Understanding the business

Ink Masters offers custom tattoo artistry, PMU services, cover-ups, and certification courses in tattooing, PMU, drawing and painting. It is led by certified tattoo artist Kulwinder Singh.

Two very different visitors arrive: someone considering a tattoo, and someone considering a career in one.

The challenge:

Nobody books a tattoo from a services list. They book after seeing work they want on their own body. The old site treated the portfolio as one section among many. It also blurred two audiences — clients and trainees — into a single journey, when they want opposite things.

The site needed to:

  • Put the work first, at full scale, before anything else
  • Let someone browse by style, not by service name
  • Establish the artist's credentials without interrupting the work
  • Separate the client journey from the training journey

Our approach:

We designed the site as a portfolio with a business attached, rather than a business site with a gallery inside it.

  • Made the work the entry point, sized to be looked at rather than scrolled past
  • Organised the portfolio by style, so someone with a rough idea can find a direction
  • Kept the artist's credentials close to the work — visible, not announced
  • Built certification courses as their own journey, since a trainee is choosing a career, not a session
  • Placed consultation booking at the point of interest, not only at the end

The impact:

The portfolio now leads the experience rather than sitting inside it, organised by style so a visitor can move from a vague idea to a specific direction.

Clients and trainees follow separate paths. Someone exploring a tattoo reaches consultation booking directly from the work. Someone considering certification gets course structure and credentials without being routed through the studio's service pages first.

When the work is the brand, the website should know when to step aside.

Most creative businesses bury their best work three clicks deep, behind a copy explaining how creative they are.
